PASTORAL JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB OVERVIEW
Union Baptist Church, a historical church in Cambridge Massachusetts is seeking a pastor to lead our congregation in spiritual growth as we move forward in our 147 years of serving the Lord, in our urban community. We are looking for a pastor who will lead, teach, prayerfully, and compassionately be rooted in the written Word of God. One who will focus on meeting our congregation’s and community’s spiritual, pastoral, and administrative leadership in all aspects of the church and its ministries.
The ideal candidate should have a Personal relationship with Jesus. Serves with integrity, passion, vision, humility, fiscal responsibility, purpose-driven, effective communicator, encourager, mentoring skills, patient,
teacher, gentle, and demonstrate perseverance.
PASTORAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Inclusive list, but not limited to)
1. Prepare and deliver weekly Sunday morning sermons.
2. Adhere to the Church By-laws
3. Lead the church in an effective evangelism program and a caring ministry for those in the church and community.
4. Lead an effective program for visiting sick, shut-in, and prospective members.
5. Officiate and conduct religious services and ceremonies, such as sacraments, weddings, baptisms, and funerals.
6. Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all church programs, and ministries, in conjunction with the Deacon and Trustee Boards.
7. Coordinate with local associations, state conventions, and the National Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interests and concerns.
8. Represent the church in civic matters.
9. Moderate church business meetings (unless another leader is designated) i.e., Deacon and/or Trustee Board member.
10. Serve as administrator of the paid church staff, and supervise the work of the ministerial staff, both paid ministers, directors, and volunteer staff.
11. A Baptist theologian who embodies The American Baptist Church of Massachusetts (TABCOM) system of government.
12. Receive and adopt the Church Covenant.
13. Collaborate with ministerial staff to set vision, direction, and goals that align with the overall vision of Union Baptist Church and uphold The Church Constitution and the Church By-laws.
14. Conduct counseling and offer guidance to individuals and families to cope with life’s challenges.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be licensed and ordained.
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Christian ministry, biblical studies, or related field from an ATS-accredited institution preferred.
- Bi-Vocational
