“The Greatest Gift Under the Tree”
Key Scripture:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
— John 3:16 (KJV)
Introduction
Family, as we gather this holiday season, we see the beauty of the Christmas tree—standing tall, decorated with lights, ornaments, and surrounded by gifts. To the world, these gifts represent love, joy, and generosity. But today, we are reminded that long before there were gifts under a tree, there was a gift on a tree—and His name is Jesus.
I. The Tree That Points to Christ
The Christmas tree is evergreen—always alive, always standing. It reminds us of the everlasting life we receive through Christ.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life…”
— John 14:6
Just as the tree stands firm, Christ stands as our firm foundation in every season—joyful or difficult.
II. The Gifts That Reflect God’s Love
Every wrapped gift under the tree represents thoughtfulness and sacrifice. But no gift compares to the one God gave us.
“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:15
Jesus is not just a gift we unwrap once a year—He is the gift we live with every day.
-
When you need peace—He is the Prince of Peace
-
When you need hope—He is the Bright Morning Star
-
When you need salvation—He is the Lamb of God
III. The Light That Shines in the Darkness
The lights on the tree shine brightly, reminding us that Jesus came into a dark world to bring light.
“The people which sat in darkness saw great light…”
— Matthew 4:16
No matter how dark life feels—Jesus still shines.
IV. Our Response to the Gift
A gift must be received. God has already given His Son, but we must choose to accept Him.
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God…”
— John 1:12
This season is not just about what’s under the tree—it’s about what’s in our hearts.
Closing Thought
This Christmas, when you look at the tree and the gifts, remember:
-
The tree reminds us of life
-
The gifts remind us of love
-
And Jesus reminds us of salvation
He is the greatest gift—given once, for all.
